The Adafruit Proto Doubler PiCowbell is designed to simplify programming and sensor connectivity for your Raspberry Pi Pico board. It functions like a mini solderless proto plate, featuring a reset button, STEMMA QT/Qwiic connector for fast I2C connections, and a rechargeable battery with an on/off switch. It's plug-and-play, so no soldering is required when used with a Pico H or Pico WH. With two side-by-side slots, it allows easy addition of accessories to your Pico or Pico W without the need for stacking headers.

Features:

  1. Two 2x20 slim socket headers for easy Pico and accessory connections with an extra row of sockets for each pin.
  2. JST PH connector for LiIon/LiPoly or Alkaline/NiMH battery use (disable charge jumper for non-rechargeable batteries).
  3. LiPoly/ LiIon charging circuitry for 3.7V/4.2V 1-cell batteries with 500mA default charge rate (adjustable to 250mA).
  4. Charging status indicated by orange (charging) and green (complete) LEDs.
  5. Slide switch to disable the 3.3V power supply via the Pico Enable pin.
  6. Reset button accessible at the end of the board.
  7. JST SH connector for I2C / Stemma QT / Qwiic connections, or plain GPIO wiring with 3V, GND, IO4 (SDA), and IO5 (SCL).
  8. Extra breakout holes for additional I2C connections or custom wiring.
  9. Three-hole connected strips for mini breadboard-style prototyping, with trace cutting options.
  10. Duplicate hole pads for easy solder-jumpering.
  11. Ground pads marked with white silkscreen for easy identification.
  12. Long ground strip near the reset button and connected holes for 3.3V power.
  13. Gold-plated pads for easy soldering.

Package Includes:

Setup Guide

1
Identify the pins
Locate VCC (power), GND (ground), and data pins (SDA/SCL for I2C, MOSI/MISO for SPI, or TX/RX for UART). Refer to the pinout diagram on the product page.
2
Wire to your microcontroller
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V (check the module spec), GND to GND, and data pins to the appropriate GPIO pins on your Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
3
Install libraries
In Arduino IDE, go to Sketch → Include Library → Manage Libraries and search for the sensor library. Install the recommended version.
4
Upload example sketch
Open File → Examples → [library name] → Basic Example. Upload to your board and open Serial Monitor to view output.
5
Calibrate if needed
Some sensors (temperature, humidity, distance) may need a short warm-up period or calibration. Run the calibration sketch if provided.
